The End

This was a poem written by my wife Carolanne in 2007. Even 16 years later, her poetry from this era still speaks to my soul. She used to compose sacred poetry while at Eucharistic Adoration, or during silent retreats for the Spiritual Exercises. This one was entitled “The End.”

Alas, time of war

Time to make a decision

Feel the pouring rain of anguish

Despair has its hold on you

Treason in the back of your mind

As you hold onto your heart

I will fill that void

An intimacy you’ll know to be true

As the last breath is taken

Life shall prevail

Rays of light are shining

Through this murky darkness

Warriors will rise up

For this moment of truth

The deceitful shall perish

When the time is right

Victory shall be ours

For it has begun

I know you feel Me

Deep in the depths of your soul

Hidden and clouded by confusion

I silently wait

Be still and reserved

Be patient and calm at once

As I break through the garden of thorns

And open the iron gate

The Enemy shall perish in the midst

Triumph in the palm of our hands

Your nothingness is now lost

The time of rescue is now

Do not look back at what was

As we cross the threshold of the unbroken

Tragedy shall be no more

Destined to complete serenity

Open your eyes

It has finished

Open your eyes

For it has finished

Open your eyes

For now it has begun

For this beginning has no end

And you have life within you.
