A Poem to St. Joan of Arc

Poem By Nina Leone

“I am not afraid, I was born for this.”

Those words come easy when life is bliss.

St. Joan, I am afraid. I am not like you.

Please teach me what’s worth fighting for and what is true.

Your beauty came from within, it needed few words,

Please teach me to resist the need to be heard.

You were obedient till the hour of your death,

Please guide me toward Jesus till my last breath.

“Hold the cross high, that I might see it through the flames.”

Please help me to be bold for the truth and unashamed.

Please pray I be in a state of grace,

so that one day I may forever gaze upon my Savior’s face.

When you were only thirteen, you first heard God’s voice.

From that day forward, you were faced with a choice.

You soon feared nothing, Maid of Orleans, you no longer feared loss.

Please teach me, St. Joan, to keep my eyes on the cross.

“Let us go on bravely.”

St. Joan of Arc, pray for us.

“Hold the cross high, that I might see it through the flames.” - Joan of Arc, burned at the stake.
